Female 20s, Rectified Bothersome Armpit Fat with Armpit Fat Liposuction

A woman in her 20s tried non-invasive treatments to remove armpit fat for years. She finally proceeded with armpit liposuction and was happy with the results.

Patient's Profile

Ms Q is a young professional in her mid-20s working in the finance industry. Despite her active lifestyle and slim physique, she struggled with a persistent issue that affected her confidence—armpit fat bulges. This concern, which had been with her for many years, kept her from wearing sleeveless tops and fully embracing her fashion choices.

Background

Ms Q had lost significant weight during her school years through dieting and exercise, yet the stubborn armpit fat bulges remained. Frustrated and self-conscious, she consulted Dr Ivan Puah in 2022 to explore possible solutions. She had no underlying medical issues and was otherwise healthy, making her an ideal candidate for various treatment options.

Consultation and Assessment

During her initial consultation, Ms Q expressed her deep dissatisfaction with the armpit fat bulges, which were particularly noticeable due to her slim arms. Despite trying numerous spot reduction exercises, the bulges persisted. Dr Puah's examination confirmed bilateral axillary fat tissues with a moderate degree of loose skin, making the bulges more prominent.

While Dr Puah discussed the option of armpit liposuction, Ms Q was hesitant about undergoing surgery and decided to explore non-surgical options first.

For the next two years, Ms Q  tried noninvasive laser treatments and fat freezing, but unfortunately, these methods did not produce the desired results.

Deciding on Surgery

In 2024, Ms Q returned to the clinic, ready to reconsider her options. After another thorough assessment and a detailed discussion of the pros and cons, risks, and potential outcomes, Ms Q decided to proceed with armpit liposuction. Preoperative blood work confirmed she was fit for surgery.

The Treatment Plan

The armpit liposuction was scheduled at an accredited Day Surgery Centre in Singapore. Dr Puah performed the procedure using his proprietary MDC-Sculpt® Lipo Technique under light sedation, with the patient cared for by an experienced anaesthetist and a skilled surgical team.

The surgery was uneventful, and Dr Puah successfully removed 400ml of subcutaneous fat from both armpits. He also employed skin tightening techniques to induce collagen production and ensure a smoother, more contoured result. Incisions were strategically made in the armpit skin folds so any scars would be hidden once healed.

After carefully closing the incisions with stitches and applying surgical dressings, Ms Q was cared for at the recovery bay. She was discharged home with a comprehensive post-op care pack on the same day.

Post-Op Recovery & Results

Ms Q experienced some soreness in both armpits for a few days after her surgery, which was managed with prescribed pain relief medication. By Day 7, her stitches were removed, and she continued to recover well. The previously bothersome armpit bulges had flattened significantly.

Over the next three to six months, her skin continued to tighten, revealing a more contoured appearance.
