4D Lipo is a modern body sculpting procedure designed for individuals who maintain a good fitness regimen but struggle with stubborn fat layers, creating prominent abdominal definitions (like six-pack or 11-line abs) while preserving a natural contour. Recovery varies per individual. Follow post-operative instructions, stay hydrated, care for wounds, wear compression garments, and attend follow-ups.
The Goal of 4D Lipo (Vaser Hi-def Lipo)
Many patients train hard in the gym and watch their diets.
They have good core strength, but despite all that effort, stubborn layers of fat continue to hide their abdominal muscles, obliques, and the contours of their waists.
4D Lipo (Vaser Hi-Def Lipo) is a modern body-sculpting technique that helps patients achieve a visible set of six-pack abs or 11-line abs, as well as a toned waistline.
Using patented ultrasonic sound wave energy, our medical director, Dr Ivan Puah, selectively targets and liquefies the fat surrounding your muscle groups.
He will remove just enough fat to create a visible frame around the underlying musculature.
A small strategic amount is left behind to amplify the muscle's natural shadow and contour.
4D Lipo is not just random fat suction and removal; it is an artistic body contouring procedure performed with precision.
For men
The most desired outcome is clear, defined abdominal muscles, often called "washboard abs."
He focuses on etching the rectus abdominis (the six-pack muscles), the external obliques (the lines along your sides), and the transverse abdominis for depth.
For women
The goal is different. Women generally do not want the same hard, blocky look.
Instead, he sculpts for the elegant "11-line abs" — those two vertical lines running down the sides of the rectus abdominis — along with definition in the serratus (the finger-like muscles along the ribcage) and the obliques.
The result is a toned, athletic waistline that still looks soft and feminine.
Week-by-Week Recovery Timeline
Initial Recovery (Day 1 - Week 4)
Expect to experience swelling and bruising
Wear a compression garment and foam pad 24/7
Avoid vigorous activities during this period
Pay close attention to wound care
Removal of sutures on Day 10 to 12 post-op
Regular Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage (MLD) is highly recommended
Healing process (Month 1 - 2)
Take extra care of the incision site to minimise scarring
Regular follow-up appointments are essential to monitor progress
Follow-Up Care (Month 3 - 6)
Maintain a healthy lifestyle and strive to keep your ideal weight
By Month 3 - 6, your body should have adapted to its new breast and body contour
Compression Garment Guide
Wear your compression garment continuously for a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks.
They should feel snug and provide firm pressure across the treated area. The garment should not make it hard for you to breathe or cause you any pain.
You need to wash your garments regularly, as sweat, skin oils, and general wear will build up. It’s recommended to buy at least two garments.
Wash your compression garment with mild detergent. Air-dry the garment; never put it in a dryer, as heat destroys the elastic fibres and ruins the compression pressure.
Red flags to watch for
If your compression garment causes:
Numbness
Sharp pain
Skin irritation that doesn't settle
Tingling in your extremities
…it may be too tight. Try a different size or adjust the fit. Call our clinic and ask; do not just "tough it out."
The Importance of Compression Garments After 4D Lipo (Vaser Hi-def Lipo
Benefits
How Compression Garments help
Reduces Swelling & Bruising
After the procedure, your tissues are filled with fluid such as anaesthetic solution, blood, and lymphatic fluid.
Consistent pressure helps push that fluid out through your body's natural drainage pathways.
Less fluid means less swelling. Less swelling means faster healing.
Enhances Skin Retraction
Compression trains your skin to adhere to the new underlying contour. It encourages that smooth, tight appearance patients want.
Provides Support to the Tissues
Offers support to the underlying tissues.
Prevents sagging or irregularities in the skin’s surface.
The supportive effect can contribute to a more aesthetically pleasing outcome.
Without the compression garment, you risk sagging, surface irregularities, or that "wavy" irregular body contour.
Promotes Comfort During Healing
Alleviates some discomfort by stabilising the treated areas.
Activity Restrictions
You may need to wait 4 to 6 weeks before returning to heavy lifting, crunches, or intensive cardio.
Those activities put direct strain on your healing tissues, especially your abdominal muscles.
Pushing too hard and too early can potentially:
Prolong swelling
Cause fluid buildup (seromas)
Disrupt the healing fat and muscle contours
Even lead to visible irregularities
Be patient and wait for your doctor's clearance before resuming any fitness routines or water activities, such as swimming or heavy gym work.
Benefits of Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) massage
Your lymphatic system is your body's internal waste disposal network.
It clears out toxins, metabolic waste, and excess fluid.
After surgery, especially liposuction, that system gets overwhelmed. Fluid accumulates, and tissue swelling persists, slowing healing.
At Amaris B. Clinic, our trained MLD therapist uses gentle, rhythmic, very specific movements to manually encourage lymph fluid to move through its natural pathways.
Benefits
How MLD helps
Reduces swelling and bruising
Actively moving trapped fluid out of the treated area.
Removes metabolic waste
Anaesthetic residue, broken-down fat cells, and inflammatory byproducts are cleared faster.
Stimulates blood circulation
More oxygen and nutrients reach your healing tissues, speeding recovery.
Alleviates discomfort
Reduces pressure on swollen tissues, and relaxes surrounding muscles.
Smooths skin texture
Regular sessions help prevent that lumpy or uneven appearance some patients worry about.
Enhances final contour
Patients who commit to MLD consistently tend to see cleaner, more defined results from their 4D Lipo.
Typically, we recommend a series of sessions starting a few days after surgery, continuing weekly for the first 4 to 6 weeks.
Dr Ivan Puah will advise you based on your healing progress.
Hi-definition liposuction demands more than technical skill. It requires the lipo doctor to have:
A thorough understanding of body anatomy
The ability to visualise the final result before making the first incision
Vast experience to know how different bodies heal and settle
Dr Ivan Puah's liposuction background
Dr Puah is an MOH-accredited liposuction doctor in Singapore. This accreditation requires demonstrated competency and adherence to strict clinical standards.
His training in Vaser liposuction was completed in the United States and Argentina, where hi-definition body sculpting techniques have been refined over years of dedicated practice.
Dr Puah currently serves as the Chairman of the Lipo Peer Review Committee in Singapore and has published scientific papers on gynecomastia.
Through his years of practice, Dr Puah has developed two surgical approaches:
360° Glandular Tissue Dissection (360°GTD®): Specifically for gynecomastia surgery, designed to completely remove glandular tissue while minimising visible scarring
MDC-Sculpt® Lipo technique: A three-dimensional approach to liposuction in strategic fat removal and body contouring
Credentials, accreditations by the governing body and liposuction surgical training matters.
But what ultimately matters to you is this: the doctor performing your procedure must have vast experience performing the procedure and can adjust to your unique anatomy.
Gladiator Male Makeover is a comprehensive body contouring procedure designed for men seeking a more sculpted, athletic appearance. It addresses common concerns, such as excess fat, loose skin, and a lack of muscle definition. The aim of Gladiator Male Makeover is to create a more masculine silhouette.
Traditional liposuction uses a suction cannula to physically break up and remove fat from the deep layer for bulk fat removal.
Bruising and swelling are often significant because the mechanical action is quite aggressive on the surrounding tissues.
4D Lipo (Vaser Hi-Def Lipo) works differently. It first uses ultrasonic sound wave energy to liquefy targeted fat cells while leaving nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue largely intact.
Therefore, patients will experience less bruising and swelling and less downtime.
But the real difference is in the result.
Traditional liposuction removes fat while 4D Lipo sculpts it.
Dr Puah works in the fat layers, strategically leaving small amounts of fat behind to cast shadows and highlight underlying muscle contours.
That is how you achieve visible abs, defined obliques, or an athletic waistline.
What areas of the body can be treated with 4D Lipo (Vaser Hi-Def Lipo)?
The most popular area by far is the abdomen, specifically for creating six-pack abs in men or 11-line abs in women.
Other common treatment zones include:
Flanks (love handles): To narrow the waistline and create a smoother transition from back to abdomen
Back: To define the latissimus dorsi or reduce bra-line bulges
Do I need to be a fitness enthusiast or a sporty person to undergo 4D Lipo (Vaser Hi-Def Lipo)?
Not necessarily. Ideal candidates are typically:
Close to their ideal body weight
Generally healthy with no major medical conditions
Bothered by stubborn pockets of fat that do not respond to exercise
Realistic about what the procedure can and cannot do
You do not need to be a bodybuilder or an athlete, but you do need to have some underlying muscle tone for the procedure to reveal.
If there is no muscle there to begin with, etching "abs" will not magically create them.
That said, many of our patients are everyday people—busy professionals, parents, individuals in their 30s to 50s, who stay reasonably active but cannot seem to shift that last layer of belly fat.
That is exactly who 4D Lipo is for.
Are there any risks associated with 4D Lipo (Vaser Hi-Def Lipo)?
Yes. 4D Lipo is still a surgery and just like any surgery, it carries risks common to all surgical procedures:
Infection (rare when proper sterile technique is used)
Bleeding or haematoma
Fluid accumulation (seroma)
Adverse reactions to anaesthesia
Contour irregularities (if too much or too little fat is removed)
Skin burns (if the Vaser probe is used incorrectly—this is why training matters)
The good news is that serious complications are uncommon when the procedure is performed by an experienced lipo doctor.
How long do the results of 4D Lipo (Vaser Hi-Def Lipo) last?
The fat cells removed during 4D Lipo are gone permanently.
However, the remaining fat cells in your body can still enlarge if you gain weight.
The durability of your results depends largely on you.
If you maintain a stable, healthy weight and continue to exercise regularly, your sculpted contours will last for years.
What are the costs associated with 4D Lipo (Vaser Hi-Def Lipo)?
The costs associated with 4D Lipo (Vaser Hi-Def Lipo) depend on several factors:
The number of areas/regions treated: One area (e.g., just the abdomen) costs less than a full 360° approach (abdomen + flanks + back)
Surgical complexity: A straightforward fat removal is different from detailed muscle etching
The lipo doctor's experience: MOH-accredited doctors with advanced training and peer recognition typically charge more, and for good reason
Facility and anaesthesia fees: These vary depending on whether the procedure is done under local or general anaesthesia.
4D Liposuction (Hi-Definition Lipo)
Effectively targets both deep and superficial fat layers, enhancing muscle definition & overall body symmetry for natural-looking results with minimal downtime.
