Body Treatment

Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction)

WHAT IS LASERLIPOLYSIS (LASER LIPOSUCTION)?

Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction), carried out by Dr Ivan Puah, is a laser-assisted liposuction that breaks down the fat cells into liquified fat, which is then removed through suction. Apart from melting fat, laser energy also stimulates collagen production via tissue coagulation and helps to break the septa bands that cause fat accumulation and skin dimpling.

ARE THERE DIFFERENT TYPES OF LASERLIPOLYSIS?

Yes, there are two types: Non-invasive and minimally invasive.

Non-invasive laser lipolysis

Non-invasive laser lipolysis is used in non-medical settings such as medispa and is performed by a therapist. An applicator will be applied to the part of your body that requires fat reduction, and multiple treatments are usually needed.

Laser Liposuction

Minimally-invasive Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction)

Minimally-invasive Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) requires an accredited MOH liposuction doctor to perform it. It is a one-time procedure carried out in an operating theatre.

SmartLipo and Smartlipo Triplex are the two types of minimally-invasive laserlipolysis currently offered by medical practitioners.

As laser lipolysis comes in non-invasive and minimally invasive forms, always ask your service provider what they offer, as the results will be vastly different.

HOW DOES LASERLIPOLYSIS (LASER LIPOSUCTION) WORK?

Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction)

Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) is performed under local anaesthesia in an accredited Day Surgery Center. The patient will be under twilight sedation (not GA), and our anaesthetist will take care of the patient throughout the procedure, ensuring the patient is comfortable.

Dr Ivan Puah will make tiny incisions on the marked areas to allow infiltration of the anaesthetic fluid into the area.

An optic fibre with laser light is then inserted through a micro-cannula into the fat layers to melt the fat tissues. Finally, the liquefied fat is removed via suction.

Which areas can Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) treat?

The procedure is ideal for removing pockets of fat from the face, neck, under chin, waist, stomach, upper back, thighs, hips, arms, knees, calves and ankles.

How long will the treatment take?

Depending on the number of areas to be treated, Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) generally takes between 1.5 and 2.5 hours, depending on the treatment areas.

SUITABLE CANDIDATES FOR LASERLIPOLYSIS (LASER LIPOSUCTION)

Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) performed by Dr Ivan Puah is a customised procedure. We recognise that not one body is the same, and the surgical approach is based on your unique body shape. You may be a suitable candidate if:

Healthy mental wellbeing

You are in good psychological health and with no other underlying medical conditions.

Realistic expectation

You have a realistic expectation of what can or cannot be achieved.

Last resort

Your objective is to improve your body contours that fail to respond to dieting or exercise.

How long do the results of laserlipolysis (laser liposuction) last?

Results achieved from Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) are long lasting as long as a sensible diet and exercise are maintained to avoid future weight gain.

Another beauty of this procedure is that skin contraction is initiated as the laser releases heat during the process, hence you can see improvement in skin tightening and firming following that.

Who is not suitable for Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction)?

Women who are pregnant or are currently breastfeeding and those with pre-existing health conditions and medical issues.

LASERLIPOLYSIS (LASER LIPOSUCTION) FAQS

Will I be uncomfortable during treatment?

Our anaesthetist will administer twilight sedation (not GA) for you during the procedure. Rest assured, the anaesthetist will take care of you throughout the process, ensuring that you are comfortable and safe.

Is Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) for weight loss?

No. This is a surgical procedure that is meant to correct disproportionate body shape. It is not a weight loss tool or solution for obesity. If your objective is to lose weight, you can consider our weight management programme.

What is the result difference between Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) vs cryolipolysis (fat freeze)?

Laser lipolysis targets subcutaneous fat with laser energy, melting the fat for removal through suction.

Fat freezing, is a non-invasive treatment to reduce fat. In optimal cases, it may lead to 20% to 24% localised fat loss. Yet, not all patients respond to cryolipolysis despite multiple treatments.

How much does Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) cost in singapore?

Costs of Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) vary between different practices, depending on the doctor’s experience in performing this procedure, the treatment area and the patient's clinical condition. It is important to note that doctors who provide surgical Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) must complete the required surgical training.

What are the side effects of Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction)?

Minor swelling, bruising or tenderness may take a few days to a week to diminish.

How soon can I start exercising after Laserlipolysis (Laser liposuction)?

Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) does not limit your daily activities. However, please refrain from strenuous exercises for the first 1 to 2 weeks.

Starting activities too soon after surgery may jeopardise your wound healing and delay your post-op recovery.

Abstain from all water activities, sauna, hot tub and spa till stitches are removed. You will be advised on when to resume exercise during your follow-up visit.
