Patient's Profile

Ms CK works in the media industry. Despite her petite size and vibrant personality, she struggled with self-confidence due to her facial features.

Background

In her late twenties, Ms CK often found herself in front of clients, delivering presentations and making impactful pitches. However, she felt her facial fat and receding chin drew unwanted attention. Ms CK had previously tried fat freezing to address her excess submental fat but saw only slight improvement. She wanted to find an alternative, more efficient treatment for her concerns and decided to consult Dr Ivan Puah in early 2024 for an opinion and assessment.

Consultation and Assessment

During her consultation with Dr Puah, Ms CK expressed her feelings of self-consciousness, particularly about her short chin and round face. She noticed that clients and acquaintances often stared at her chin, making her uncomfortable and undermining her confidence.

Dr Puah's examination revealed that Ms CK had a small chin, medically known as hypognathism or a recessed chin, accompanied by excess submental fat. This combination made her face imbalanced, contributing to a "weak" chin appearance. While non-invasive options like dermal fillers were discussed, Ms CK wanted a more permanent solution.

The Treatment Plan

Dr Puah proposed a comprehensive facial liposuction procedure to sculpt a more defined jawline and tighten the skin. The surgery was performed at an accredited Day Surgery Center under twilight sedation, ensuring Ms CK's comfort and safety. With an experienced anaesthetist and a skilled surgical team, Dr Puah meticulously made incisions smaller than 3mm behind Ms CK's ears and under her chin. These strategic incisions allowed for the infiltration of anaesthetic fluid and liposuction to remove excess submental fat and carve out a defined jawline.

The surgery, lasting just over an hour, went smoothly. Ms CK recovered well in the recovery bay before heading home with dressings and facial compression to aid her recovery.

Post-Op Recovery & Results

While she initially voiced concerns about facial puffiness during the first two weeks, the tissue swelling gradually subsided with time. Stitches were removed a week post-op. Regular follow-up appointments and skin firming treatments at the clinic further enhanced her recovery. During her last review, before-and-after photos were taken for comparison, with obvious results. Ms CK shared that the decision to do facial lipo was not about vanity but rather for her self-confidence, and it was the right one to make.

Understanding the Psychological Impact of Weak Chin

Addressing a receding chin is more than a cosmetic enhancement; it significantly impacts self-esteem and psychological well-being. A well-defined chin improves facial balance and aesthetics and boosts self-confidence and overall satisfaction with one's appearance.
