As the trend of wearing sportswear even outside of the gym is now becoming a norm, it has also created a ripple effect in individuals who are becoming more image and body-conscious. Many of us are becoming more interested in working out and eating right. Dr. Ivan Puah, medical director of Amaris B. Clinic, also shares his latest observation.
In case you haven’t noticed, the athleisure trend has taken the world by storm over the last five years. Don’t believe us? In 2017, the athleisure market was worth 2.5 million pounds and the trend is predicted to increase by 22.6% this year.
Just several months ago, Bloomberg reported that Lululemon Athletica’s shares climbed to an all-time high of 92% as athleisure wear quickly became the go-to at-home style for those telecommuting.
From the buzzy Lululemon to sweat-proof, gym-ready, exercise-compatible beauty (translation: waterproof mascaras and tinted lip balms), the trend that’s closely associated to comfort has gradually transformed into a closet staple instead of another fleeting fashion movement as it remains mindful not to sacrifice style and good, old-fashioned vanity for the sake of relaxation.
The soaring popularity is also largely courtesy of fashion and social media influencers, celebrities as well as fitness key opinion leaders pushing the trend to the forefront by simply appearing in sports bra and sweatpants or giving sportswear a stylish twist with dressier options.
With the constant imagery practically plastered on our home feeds, it didn’t take long for us to acknowledge and accept that yoga pants are acceptable for brunch, work, and the gym? Yes, sign us up, please!
As the trend of wearing sportswear even outside of the gym is now becoming a norm, it has also created a ripple effect in individuals who are becoming more image and body-conscious. Many of us are becoming more interested in working out and eating right as we perceive that having an athletic body is necessary to look good in sportswear.
Dr. Ivan Puah, medical director of Amaris B. Clinic, also shared his latest observation. He noted that there has been an increasing demand for 4D Liposuction (Hi-Defintion Liposuction) as the procedure can zero in on problematic areas and help transform the body like no exercise regime can.
Here’s how this increasingly popular body sculpting procedure can help you rock athleisure wear stylishly.
“4D Liposuction (Hi-Definition Lipo) is the most artistic form of body sculpting among all the liposuctions I have performed. This procedure is developed for men and women who want to achieve a more athletic and muscular appearance.
During the procedure, I will remove fat from specific areas of the body such as the abdomen or flanks while enhancing the visibility of underlying muscles, to create ultra-defined results and a more athletic appearance,” explains Dr. Ivan Puah, a liposuction doctor in Singapore who’s one of the first to carry out 4D Liposuction (Hi-Definition Lipo) in 2008.
4D Liposuction (Hi-Definition Lipo) requires the doctor’s expertise and experience to work with your existing musculature. The best candidate for this procedure is one who is very close to their goal weight and has good skin firmness.
The suitable candidate must also have muscles that can be felt directly underneath the skin when contracting but somehow cannot achieve his or her dream lean body despite working out consistently anywhere from four to six days per week, eating healthily, and maintaining an active lifestyle.
So what does this procedure entail? Carried out in a MOH-approved Day Surgery Center and under the care of an anesthesiologist, the patient will be lightly sedated (not under general anaesthesia) to feel relaxed and comfortable.
Dr Ivan Puah will then make tiny incisions in the area that is to be treated to infiltrate the area with a numbing solution. The saline solution helps in minimising blood loss and reducing the chance of bruising.
Vastly different from other forms of liposuction, 4D Liposuction (Hi-Definition Lipo) requires specially designed cannulas and surgical tools.
With more than 15 years of liposuction experience, Dr. Ivan Puah developed his body sculpting approach, known as MDC-Sculpt®️ Lipo technique. This unique liposuction technique sculpts the body, specifically emphasising the muscles.
Although post-surgical swelling is expected, patients can witness instant definition, with further improvements over the next three to six months. To hasten the recovery process, one should wear the compression garment 24/7 for six to eight weeks.
It’s not just the ladies going onboard the athleisure trend; more men are jumping on the bandwagon too. For those who need to take care of their “man boobs” (medically known as gynecomastia), consider gynecomastia surgery to level up your physical appearance.
Gynecomastia is a male breast deformity that affects 65% to 70% of the male population worldwide. An imbalance of hormones triggers gynecomastia. According to statistics collected by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) statistics Singapore, about 50 to 60 percent of adolescent males experience gynecomastia.
Symptoms in adolescent males who suffer from gynecomastia are usually caused by male hormonal changes, resulting from the effect of an altered estrogen/androgen balance on the breast tissues or, it can also result from an increased sensitivity of breast tissue to normal estrogen levels.
Gynecomastia is even more common among adult men. Nearly 65 percent of men between 27 and 92 years old had some kind of gynecomastia. Although the symptoms may be similar, the causes of gynecomastia in adolescents and adults are very different. Adult gynecomastia is usually associated with increasing age due to progressive testicular hypofunction and increased weight and body fat. The prevalence of this condition peaks again between the ages of 50 and 69, with at least 1 in 4 men in this age group being affected.
The surgical approach developed by Dr Ivan Puah considers the degree of the gynecomastia, glandular tissue-to-fat ratio and parenchyma distribution of the patient. He will propose an individualised approach for the patient after carefully assessing the patient's clinical condition and understanding the patient's concerns.
Dr Ivan Puah's ultimate aim is to remove fibrous and painful glandular tissues and/or fat tissues to restore a natural-looking masculine body shape with the smallest possible incision for his patients.
Dr Ivan Puah is an accredited liposuction doctor in Singapore with over 17 years of body sculpting experience. He is certified to perform Vaser liposuction, having completed his training in the United States and Argentina. He is the Chairman of the Lipo Peer Review Committee in Singapore and has received dedicated surgical training in gynecomastia surgery in the United States of America.
Having trained to perform liposuction is only the beginning. Dr Ivan Puah believes it is crucial to understand and master the technicalities of the procedure, including the potential complications that may arise. To be meticulous in approach, with a detailed overview and foresight capabilities, are essential must-haves for a doctor.
Finding the right doctor with an aesthetic sense is essential in achieving the desired outcome regarding silhouette and results. A body sculpting procedure is akin to a work of Art in progress. The artist's skill, experience, appreciation and understanding of the body aesthetic separate a masterpiece from an average work.
