As the trend of wearing sportswear even outside of the gym is now becoming a norm, it has also created a ripple effect in individuals who are becoming more image and body-conscious. Many of us are becoming more interested in working out and eating right. Dr. Ivan Puah, medical director of Amaris B. Clinic, also shares his latest observation.
In case you haven’t noticed, the athleisure trend has taken the world by storm over the last five years. Don’t believe us? In 2017, the athleisure market was worth 2.5 million pounds and the trend is predicted to increase by 22.6% this year.
Just several months ago, Bloomberg reported that Lululemon Athletica’s shares climbed to an all-time high of 92% as athleisure wear quickly became the go-to at-home style for those telecommuting.
From the buzzy Lululemon to sweat-proof, gym-ready, exercise-compatible beauty (translation: waterproof mascaras and tinted lip balms), the trend that’s closely associated to comfort has gradually transformed into a closet staple instead of another fleeting fashion movement as it remains mindful not to sacrifice style and good, old-fashioned vanity for the sake of relaxation.
The soaring popularity is also largely courtesy of fashion and social media influencers, celebrities as well as fitness key opinion leaders pushing the trend to the forefront by simply appearing in sports bra and sweatpants or giving sportswear a stylish twist with dressier options.
With the constant imagery practically plastered on our home feeds, it didn’t take long for us to acknowledge and accept that yoga pants are acceptable for brunch, work, and the gym? Yes, sign us up, please!
As the trend of wearing sportswear even outside of the gym is now becoming a norm, it has also created a ripple effect in individuals who are becoming more image and body-conscious. Many of us are becoming more interested in working out and eating right as we perceive that having an athletic body is necessary to look good in sportswear.
Dr. Ivan Puah, medical director of Amaris B. Clinic, also shared his latest observation. He noted that there has been an increasing demand for VASER Hi-Def Lipo as the procedure can zero in on problematic areas and help transform the body like no exercise regime can.
Here’s how this increasingly popular body sculpting procedure can help you rock athleisure wear stylishly.
“VASER Hi-Def Lipo is truly the most artistic amongst all of the liposuctions that I have performed. This procedure is developed for men and women who want to achieve a more athletic and muscular appearance.
During the procedure, I will remove fat from specific areas of the body such as the abdomen, flanks or male chest, while enhancing the visibility of underlying muscles, to create ultra-defined results and a more athletic appearance,” explains Dr. Ivan Puah, a liposuction doctor in Singapore who’s one of the first to introduce VASER liposuction procedures to Southeast Asia in 2008.
Compared to other liposuction procedures, VASER Hi-Def Lipo requires the doctor’s expertise and experience to work with your existing musculature. The best candidate for this procedure is one who is very close to their goal weight and has good skin firmness.
The suitable candidate must also have muscles that can be felt directly underneath the skin when contracting, but somehow cannot achieve his or her dream lean body despite working out consistently anywhere from four to six days per week, eating healthily, and maintaining an active lifestyle.
So what does this procedure entail? Carried out in an MOH-approved operating theatre and under the care of Amaris B. Clinic’s panel of esteemed anaesthesiologists, patients will be lightly sedated (not under general anaesthesia) to feel relaxed and comfortable.
Dr. Ivan Puah will then make tiny incisions to the area that is to be treated, in order to infiltrate the area with a tumescent saline solution to numb the site and shrink the blood vessels – the saline solution helps in minimising blood loss and reducing the chance of bruising. A VASER probe that transmits sound energy is then inserted into the treatment area to break up and emulsify the fat tissues, whilst preserving other vital connective tissues.
Vastly different from other liposuction procedures, VASER Hi-Def Lipo requires specially designed cannulas and equipment. Doctors performing this procedure must first obtain full fundamental and advanced surgical training on body sculpting in VASER and possess vast experience in performing liposuction before offering this technique.
With more than 15 years of clinical experience in VASER Lipo, Dr. Ivan Puah has developed his own body sculpting approach, known as MDC-Sculpt®️ Lipo technique. This unique liposuction technique removes the melted fat while sculpting the body with specific emphasis on outlining the muscles of the body.
“VASER Hi-Def Lipo is certainly more time-consuming compared to standard liposuction. With my MDC-Sculpt® Lipo technique, it allows thorough fat removal on the area, which will constitute a more desirable cosmetic outcome as the scarring is reduced to the bare minimum,” Dr. Ivan Puah explains.
Although post-surgical swelling is expected, patients can witness instant muscle definition, with further improvements gradually visible over the next six to eight months. To hasten the recovery process, one should wear the compression garment 24/7 for a period of six to eight weeks, to reduce the postoperative swelling in the treated area.
It’s not just the ladies that are going onboard the athleisure trend, more men are jumping on the bandwagon too. For those who have the need to take care of their “man boobs” (medically known as gynecomastia), consider a gynecomastia surgery with a certified doctor to level up your physical appearance.
A male breast deformity that affects 65% to 70% of the male population worldwide, gynecomastia is essentially a more rounded, female-like chest that’s often accompanied by puffy nipples.
For some, it might also come with the proliferation of fatty tissues. Whereas a normal male chest is flat with small nipples, men struggling with gynecomastia experience symptoms such as breast tenderness, discomfort, pain or even swelling. Those who are diagnosed with mixed gynecomastia will require additional fat removal via VASER Lipo on top of glandular excision to achieve a more masculine-looking chest.
When coupled with Dr. Ivan Puah’s 360-degree Glandular Tissue Dissection (360° GTD®) technique, gynecomastia surgery can offer chest-sculpting benefits that produce a more natural and defined appearance.
The 360-degree dissection method is a glandular removal technique developed by Dr. Ivan Puah, having refined his surgical skills after undergoing dedicated training in gynecomastia surgery in the US. It minimises the invasiveness of the glandular removal, improves the cosmetic outcome, and leaves minimal scarring post-operation.
On top of his clinical practice in gynecomastia surgery, Dr. Ivan Puah is also a VASER certified physician with more than 15 years of experience in VASER Lipo and VASER Hi-Def Lipo.
He obtained his VASER Fundamental and Advanced Body Sculpting training in the US and Argentina back in 2008, and is accredited by the Ministry of Health to perform liposuction. In addition to being the Chairman of the Lipo Peer Review Committee in Singapore, Dr. Ivan Puah is also trained in syringe liposculpture and fat grafting by renowned French plastic surgeon, Dr. Pierre François Fournier.
When choosing a doctor for your body sculpting needs, it’s crucial that you only go for doctors who have received accreditations from the Ministry of Health Singapore to perform liposuction.
What you may not be aware of is that patients who are keen on surgical fat removal procedures such as liposuction must fulfil the patient criteria set by the Ministry. This includes having a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 17 and 28, and the candidate must be healthy with no serious underlying medical conditions.
Doctors who are performing liposuction in Singapore are limited to the amount of fat removed per surgical session, which is two litres, for patient’s safety. Additionally, the procedure has to be performed in an MOH-accredited operating theatre under the supervision and care of anaesthesiologists, and assisted by a clinically-trained nursing team.
