Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction)

WHAT IS LASERLIPOLYSIS (LASER LIPOSUCTION)?

Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction), carried out by Dr Ivan Puah, is a minimally invasive laser-assisted liposuction that breaks down the fat cells into liquified fat, which is then removed through suction.

Apart from melting fat, laser energy also stimulates collagen production via tissue coagulation and helps to break the septa bands that cause fat accumulation and skin dimpling.

WHAT HAPPENS BEFORE & DURING LASERLIPOLYSIS (LASER LIPOSUCTION) SURGERY?

Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction)

💧 Anaesthesia

The procedure is carried out in an accredited Day Surgery Center.

An anaesthetist ensures the patient is comfortable and safe during the twilight sedation. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia.

⏳ Treatment time

1 to 2.5 hours, depending on the targeted area.

👨🏼 How it works

During the procedure, Dr Ivan Puah, will:

  • Make a small, short strategically-placed incisions in your skin
  • Numb the targeted area with specially prepared anaesthetic fluid
  • Insert the laser through the incision to carry out fat melting and skin tightening
  • Remove liquefied fat via a blunt suction cannula
  • Stitch the incision
  • Apply thick compression dressing

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE FAT AFTER LASERLIPOLYSIS (LASER LIPOSUCTION)?

Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) works by breaking down the membranes of fat cells, which is why they are called laser lipolysis.

For example, SmartLipo uses a laser that expands the tissues it touches and disrupts the fat cell membranes at a specific frequency. A fibre-optic laser delivers this energy under the skin. The fat cells will then turn into debris which is a sludge-like substance.

Fat canister from laserlipolysis

Traditional laser liposuction method

Some doctors allow time for the body to eliminate destroyed fat cells after laser fat melting. Macrophages consume the debris, which the liver processes and the body eventually expels through stool.

Dr Ivan Puah's different approach for a more visible result

Dr Ivan Puah suctions out melted fat immediately using specialised liposuction cannulas. This allows patients to see results right away before post-op swelling occurs.

Minimally-invasive Laserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction) is a surgical procedure. Dr Ivan Puah, an accredited MOH liposuction doctor, will perform this procedure as a day surgery.

Non-Surgical Laser LipolysisLaserlipolysis (Laser Liposuction)
What it is
  • The provider will attach a paddle-like applicator to the targeted area.
  • The paddle emits heat, which then warms the fat cells beneath the skin.
  • The body will naturally absorb and eliminate the dead fat cells over time.
  • Combines the elements of surgical lipo with the use of a laser to effectively destroy the fat cells and tighten the skin.
  • Melted fat cells are removed during suction.
  • Less invasive than traditional lipo, and recovery is quicker.
