Excess fat in your thighs causing skin issues and affecting your sartorial choices? This could an effective way to tone up your lower body

Sunny Singapore makes skin chafing worse when there’s fat thigh accumulation. This type of fat is notorious for being easy to gain but difficult to lose.

Picking out clothes to wear can be a Herculean task, especially for those with a thicker lower body. Choosing the right pants feels like a treasure hunt, and you’d probably shy away from skirts and body-hugging dresses too.

Another problem with thick thighs that you may deal with is thigh chafing.

Why does this happen, and what triggers this issue? Keep reading as we lay out the facts about thigh chafing and share the effective fat-reducing solution you can try.

What causes thigh chafing?

You may not have heard of thigh chafing before, but there’s a good chance you might have experienced it at some point in your life.

One of the most common thigh-related skin problems, thigh chafing is essentially a result of skin-to-skin friction when your inner thighs rub against each other, similar to how blisters form on your feet as a result of wearing shoes that are too tight.

This type of friction can also happen when your skin rubs against the fabric of your pants for an extended time, leading to dryness, irritation, blisters, and even skin breakdown.

Heat and humidity are arguably the largest causes of thigh chafing, and your risk of thigh chafing may inevitably increase with any of the following factors:

  • You’re sweating, either from exercise or from everyday activities
  • You’re walking or running frequently
  • You’re wearing thin leggings, skirts, or shorts that don’t provide enough barrier between your thighs
  • You’re wearing cotton or other fabrics that don’t absorb enough moisture
  • There’s trapped moisture between skin folds

How do you know when you’re experiencing thigh chafing?

When you experience skin chafing in the thighs, trust us when we say you’ll know.

But, here’s a list of symptoms to know in case you need a few things to look out for when you’re dealing with thigh chafing:

  • Skin redness
  • Blister-like lesions or boils
  • A flat rash
  • Burning sensation
  • Pain
  • Itchiness during the healing process

If you have frequent chafing, you may also start seeing brown spots on your inner thighs.

These spots form when your skin heals after a chafing episode, but they may recur if you experience inner thigh chafing continuously because it also causes hyperpigmentation.

The #1 culprit of thigh chafing = Thigh fat

We can’t run from heat and humidity in sunny Singapore but skin chafing is made worse when there’s fat accumulation in the thigh area. This type of fat is notorious for being incredibly easy to gain but extremely difficult to lose.

Excess thigh fat is commonly linked to genetics or a sedentary lifestyle. Your body is hardwired to convert any extra calories you consume into fat, which are likely to stay rent-free in areas like your thighs.

Fortunately, there are ways to eliminate these stubborn fat deposits on the thighs.

If you are planning or have embarked on a strict dieting regime and exercise to tackle stubborn fat, chances are you will lose weight overall and improve your metabolism and health. Unfortunately, you cannot “programme” your body to lose fat where you want it to be.

Spot reduction through working out – targeted exercises that supposedly zoom into a particular body area for fat reduction – is a myth.

Here’s an effective way to reduce stubborn fat and tone up the thigh area

Liposuction in modern times is no longer a gruesome and bloody affair. In fact, with the advancement of surgical techniques and technologies, liposuction has gained more brownie points, as it remains the go-to procedure worldwide for removing excess fat.

However, liposuction should not be mistaken as a tool for weight loss. Instead, it is an effective surgical treatment to correct disproportionate body shapes and remove fat that does not budge with diet or exercise.

Women who are genetically predisposed to fat gain on the lower limbs, such as inner and outer thighs, knees and calves, will benefit from this procedure.

Liposuction performed by Dr. Ivan Puah, medical director of Amaris B. Clinic, is markedly different from the ones offered by others.

An advocate that body sculpting surgeries are 70 per cent art and 30 per cent science, Dr. Ivan Puah developed his proprietary liposuction approach known as MDC-Sculpt®️ Lipo technique for comprehensive fat removal and harmonising natural body contours and musculature.

“Body fat characteristics, thickness and distribution, are just like fingerprints and are unique for each individual. Further, other factors that we need to consider include skin laxity, presence of cellulite and whether the patient has any other fat reduction treatment done before. These are contributing factors to the end results for the patient. In my opinion, liposuction cannot be done in a cookie-cutter manner. Instead, it is a delicate procedure involving meticulous contouring,” explains the MOH-accredited liposuction doctor who’s also the chairman of the Lipo Peer Review Committee in Singapore.

Apart from the thighs, the procedure can also effectively treat flabby arms, round abdomen, love handles (waist), and calves.

MDC-Sculpt® Lipo technique is developed with my patients in mind. This approach allows me to place strategic incisions to maximise the reach out to the fat layers for thorough removal. At the same time, to carry out sculpturing of the area and tightens loose skin,” shares Dr. Ivan Puah.

Compared to non-invasive fat reduction treatments that claim to remove up to 20% of fat tissues over several sessions, liposuction with MDC-Sculpt® Lipo technique is a one-time procedure that can remove more than 90% of localised tissue subcutaneous fat. This technique is less abrasive than traditional liposuction, which translates to faster recovery, lesser bruising and discomfort for patients.

Let Amaris B. Clinic help you achieve toned, slender thighs effectively and safely

For the uninformed, the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Singapore is strict about which health professionals can perform liposuction. This is why liposuction licenses are issued based on strict criteria. MOH accredits Dr. Ivan Puah for performing liposuction. has received multiple body sculpting training overseas and was trained by French plastic surgeon Dr. Pierre François Fournier, in syringe liposculpture.

The combination of Dr. Ivan Puah’s surgical experience and the degree of meticulous face and body sculpting that he adheres to is what distinguishes Amaris B. Clinic from other liposuction providers.
