VASER® (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) Lipo is a less invasive form of liposuction. Like liposuction, it eliminates unwanted fat, but it does so in a gentler manner by using sound energy to liquefy unwanted fat cells in targeted areas. VASER® Lipo targets areas with unwanted fat, leaving surrounding tissues undisturbed. The result is a more contoured and defined appearance.
VASER Liposuction is able to specifically target areas that have unwanted fat, leaving surrounding tissues undisturbed. The procedure is done under local anaesthetic.
Tumescent fluid is infiltrated to numb the target area and shrink the blood vessels. Tumescent fluid is a mixture of lidocaine and saline, which increases comfort and aid in recovery.
The VASER probe, a unique handpiece which emits high ultrasonic frequencies is inserted to expand and contract the air bubbles in the tumescent fluid. This helps to separate fat tissues for extraction.
The fat is emulsified and at this stage, the doctor will carefully manoeuvre the probe as he sculpts and shapes the body. The fat is suctioned out.
There are many advantages of VASER Liposuction over the traditional liposuction method.
VASER Lipo is a form of ultrasonic-assisted liposuction while traditional liposuction method removes fat through avulsion. As such, VASER Lipo procedure will not cause damage to surrounding tissues because it is able to remove fat with better accuracy. There is also lesser blood loss.
As VASER Lipo is able to target areas better, a capable and experienced doctor is able to carve a smoother and shapelier silhouette. Skin retracts during the procedure, which allows it to take the new body shape without loss to its elasticity.
Another advantage of VASER Lipo is the minimal downtime involved. The disruption caused to your daily activities is also minimal but do follow the advice given on post-treatment care. Traditional liposuction may take a longer recovery time before you can resume your daily chores and activities.
The treatment can be performed on multiple body areas. These include the chin, neck, chest, arms, waist, hips, stomach, back, buttocks, thighs, knees and calves.
VASER Liposuction is suitable for both men and women. Do note however that individuals who are obese may not be ideal candidates for the procedure. Those most suitable are individuals who have maintained an ideal weight range. Ideally, patients should also have decent elasticity.
Pregnant women are not suitable for VASER Liposuction. Patients with pre-existing medical conditions or have a history will be assessed during consultation to ascertain their suitability for the procedure.
Depending on the number of areas to be treated, VASER® Lipo generally takes between 1 to 2 hours.
Noticeable results are immediate. Expect some swellings but these will subside over time. At Amaris B. Clinic, your well being and trust is our concern. Dr Ivan Puah and team will discuss, among other things, the expected results during consultation and the different stages including before the procedure and aftercare sessions.
The advantages of this treatment include:
• It can be done under local anaesthetic.
• It has minimal risk of bleeding, bruising and discomfort.
• It involves quicker recovery with lesser downtime.
• It stimulates collagen production, resulting in tighter skin.
Although VASER® Lipo can provide substantial improvements, it is not a weight loss technique or a solution for obesity. It is also not recommended for those with excessive or bulging areas of skin.
One week before your procedure, it is recommended that you keep a healthy diet and drink plenty of water. Avoid fish oil, garlic, ginger and ginkgo supplements. Do inform the doctor of any conditions that could complicate the procedure.
VASER® Lipo can be performed on multiple areas of the body including the hips, buttocks, thighs and abdomen which are traditionally the more resistant areas when it comes to fat loss. The amount of fat that can be removed is best discussed and informed by the doctor during consultation.
Pseudogynecomastia, like gynecomastia, is a real issue as well. This condition is caused by fat deposits without glandular tissue proliferation. To ascertain which one you may be suffering from, it is best to seek qualified advice. In pseudogynecomastia, a weight loss and exercise program is usually prescribed. However, if there are no improvements, liposuction may be recommended.
The outer and inner thighs are areas where stubborn fat is known to accumulate and hard to get rid of. Women with certain genetic predisposition in a sense of being pear-shaped for example, are susceptible to having excess fat stored in these areas. A sedentary lifestyle, poor dietary habits and estrogen dominance are also known causes.
A non-invasive fat reduction that has acquired popularity is Cryolipolysis. It freezes fat and these are then removed via the body’s natural elimination process. Post-treatment, the patient can expect swelling and redness, which will subside over time.A serious side effect that can occur is “Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia” (PAH). Although rare it is not uncommon. Due to its appearance, it is also known as the “stick of butter” effect. It occurs when the areas that were treated increases in size instead of shrinking. They also become firmer compared to the surrounding tissues. Patients who are affected by this have to bear with increased size or bulge for between SIX to NINE months after which it is expected to subside. Liposuction, the only remedial option, will then be performed to address the situation.
The accumulation of body fat can also be the result of ageing. This accumulation, particularly in the abdominal region, usually results in the “muffin top” appearance. Aside from ageing - for women, the accumulation of body fat also occurs after childbirth. Genetics also plays a part.
The ‘bingo wings’ is another that is dreaded by many. This wobbly and less-than flattering loose flesh found on the upper arms is a common occurrence and one of the causes is genetics. Some people are therefore more predisposed to them because they tend to store more fat in the affected area.
Interestingly, liposuction is also effective beyond cosmetic needs and purpose. It can also treat medical conditions such as:
• Adipose tissue diseases
• Multiple systemic lipomatosis
• Dercum’s disease
• Subcutaneous lipomas
• Post-traumatic lipomas
• Chronic lymphedema
• Axillary hyperhidrosis
VASER® Lipo removes fat permanently. A healthy lifestyle that includes proper diet and exercise will certainly help to maintain your new look. However, it is also important to note that fat is essential in our well-being so some crucial fat layers will remain untreated. If any weight gain does occur, it will be proportionally distributed over the entire body. You can also expect changes that are associated with the normal ageing process.
It is highly recommended that you do your best to maintain your weight after treatment. As our body does not produce new fat cells after puberty, results are more or less permanent. If you do put on weight, it won’t be noticeable if the amount is insignificant. Changes to treated areas are usually more notable with a 3 to 4 kg weight gain.
Dr Ivan Puah will assess your clinical condition before advising on the amount of fat that can be removed. The amount is also dependent on the area to be treated.
According to VASER®, VASER® Lipo has an excellent safety record. However, the procedure does carry a minimal risk which will be discussed by the doctor during consultation.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. Post-procedure you may experience slight discomfort, swelling and bruising but these are expected, and will subside over time. Pain relief medication also helps in reducing discomfort.
It is important to take it easy for a while while you recover. Refrain from taking part in strenuous activities and such. The disruption caused to your daily activities will be minimal and you will be given ample advice on how to manage the recovery process.
Cost varies and is dependent on several factors including the doctor’s experience and skills. A highly experienced doctor will have completed a significant number of procedures and these include in addressing complex ones and procedures of the corrective kind.
At Amaris B. Clinic, we understand that everyone’s needs are different and unique. When it comes to body contouring, we design a treatment or procedure that will best suit these needs. Cost will vary depending on your needs, the complexity involved and the areas of the body that needs treatment.
It is a one-time permanent fat removal procedure. The duration will depend on the number of areas to be treated but generally, it takes between ONE to TWO hours.
Fat cells that are eliminated during the procedure will not grow back. The new body that you are experiencing will be more or less permanent but do maintain a healthy lifestyle. If weight gain does occur, it will simply be a larger version of your new body shape.
It is highly recommended that you do your part of maintaining results. This means adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes adequate physical activity. The procedure removes fat that was present in your body and not necessarily in the prevention of fat gain, especially if you do not take care of your body. It also does not prevent physical body changes due to the normal ageing process.
Post-procedure swelling, bruising and numbness are to be expected and will improve with time. It is part of the healing process as with other surgical procedures. During the consultation, you will be informed of what to expect to alleviate any concerns.
One of the several advantages of this procedure is that it stimulates the production of collagen which helps in skin tightening.
VASER Lipo stimulates the production of collagen. This provides for the best possible skin retraction, improving skin’s overall contouring and smoothness.
Prior to the procedure, a list of instructions will be handed to you. It is highly advisable to follow them to reduce and minimise the risks of possible complications during surgery.
Among others, you will be asked to stop or refrain from taking certain medications (if you are on any) and these include Vitamin E and Vitamin C, which ideally should be stopped ONE week before the procedure. This will help to reduce the likelihood of increased bleeding and impairment of clotting.
Abstaining from smoking and alcohol consumption is advised – several weeks for the former and at least THREE to FIVE days for the latter before surgery day.
It is important to not go on a dramatic weight loss programme or fasting before the procedure.
Rapid weight loss including liquid diets may result in complications such as cardiac irregularities and poor wound healing.
Maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet at least TWO weeks before your scheduled procedure date.
Ensure that there is someone, preferably a family member or friend, to pick you up after the procedure.
Arrive on the day of your scheduled procedure with an empty stomach and do not consume anything by mouth for at least EIGHT hours.
Avoid coffee and tea on the day itself. Leave your valuables and accessories such as jewelries, rings, wedding bands and/or bracelets at home.
Do not apply makeup and wear loose comfortable clothing.
VASER Liposuction results in only minimal disruption to your daily chores and activities. Still, it is best to avoid strenuous exercises and water-based activities for TWO weeks after the procedure.
Swelling, bruising and numbness are to be expected but they will improve over time.
Wearing a compression garment, ideally for a period of FOUR to EIGHT weeks, also helps in post-procedure recovery, as it will deal with the swelling and skin contraction.
You will be given advice on what to expect at the consultation stage to help alleviate any concerns and worries.
At Amaris B. Clinic, aftercare plays a significant role not only to assist you with faster recovery but also to ensure optimum results. After your liposuction treatment, we offer a bespoke aftercare program designed to help with the healing process.

• Ask the doctor for testimonials to and examples of the results of his work. These should be a good indication of what you can expect and a reflection of the doctor’s capabilities.
• Do understand the benefits as well potential side effects of the procedure. Clear your misconceptions and ask the doctor any questions that you find relevant and necessary.
• Note that post-treatment follow-up and care is equally important, as it can help to improve your recovery and final results. Adhere to the pre and post procedure advice given. You have to do your part as much as the doctor will. This will go a long way in ensuring a smooth procedure and equally important, in recovery.
DON’T:
• Opt for a procedure just because it is cheap or the cheapest option. The intent is to get the most appropriate one done to best suit your needs without incurring unnecessary risks to your health and well being.
• Be afraid or shy to ask the doctor any questions. These include in regards to treatment options that may be available. Your doctor should be able to alleviate your concerns and worries.
• Have unrealistic expectations. Everyone is unique and each need must be addressed and met as realistically applicable and possible. Discuss your goals and keep an open mind in regards to what can and cannot be achieved.
• A key point that can never be reiterated enough is to discuss matters in regards to your goals and needs with the doctor. Also, to raise any concerns that you may have including the risks involved, cost and benefits. You should feel assured because comfort and safety matters.
• Do not forget to provide essential information such as any pre-existing and prevailing medical conditions including past medical history, allergies and medications that you are taking. “Medications” is also to mean supplements of any kind.

Finding the right doctor with an aesthetic sense is an important factor to achieve the desired outcome both in terms of silhouette and true results. A body sculpting procedure is akin to a work of art in progress. The artist’s skill, experience, appreciation and understanding of the aesthetic are what separate a masterpiece from an average piece of work.
Having trained to perform liposuction is only the beginning. A doctor has to understand and master the technicalities of the procedure including the potential complications that may arise. To be meticulous in approach, with a detailed overview and foresight capabilities are essential must-haves for a doctor.
Dr Ivan Puah obtained his fundamental and advanced VASER Body Sculpting training in Colorado and Argentina. Additionally, he also received training and guidance in syringe liposculpture, fat grafting and thread lift by renowned French plastic surgeon, Dr. Pierre François Fournier.
