Vaser Liposuction (Ultrasonic Assisted Lipo) uses targeted sound energy to gently liquefy fat deposits before removal. The Vaser[1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7] technique preserves surrounding blood vessels and connective tissue – resulting in smoother, more natural body contours than traditional liposuction.
Key Benefits of Vaser Liposuction:
Refined by Dr Ivan Puah, our Vaser Lipo technique delivers transformative yet natural-looking results.
Vaser Liposuction is a form of ultrasonic-assisted liposuction performed under local anaesthesia. This fat removal procedure utilises ultrasound energy to gently break down unwanted fat tissues.

Tumescent fluid, a special mixture of lidocaine and saline used in liposuction to increase comfort and aid in faster recovery, is infiltrated to numb the targeted area and shrink the blood vessels.

A probe which emits high ultrasonic frequency is inserted to expand and contract the air bubbles within the tumescent fluid.
The probe oscillates at 36,000 times ultrasonic soundwaves per second, separating fat tissues from other connective tissues.
Even though the probe moves at a fast speed, it does not disturb the veins, arteries, and other connective tissues.

Once the fat is emulsified, Dr Ivan Puah will carefully suction the liquified fat and carry out body contouring.
Unlike traditional liposuction, which is more intrusive, Vaser Liposuction is gentle on the body.
It breaks down fat cells while leaving other important connective tissues relatively undisturbed; hence the incidence of tissue injuries is significantly reduced.

Vaser Liposuction can safely and reliably remove fat, contour the targeted area, and promote skin tightening.

Removes enlarged male breasts characterised by the presence of excess fat deposits.

Provides significant aesthetic improvement of the leg silhouette, creating an “elongating” effect, and improving the proportions of the lower extremities.

Flattens abdominal fat and contours thick waists, a common concern amongst men and women.

Shapes and contours bingo wings (arm fat) and tighten loose arm skin.

Removes hard-to-treat areas such as the armpit fat and tightens skin

Targets back fat (back roll) from overall weight gain, genetics, ageing, genetics, and hormonal changes

Targets side effect of fat freezing, where the treated area hardens and enlarges instead of reducing.

| Treatments | Traditional Liposuction | VASER LIPOSUCTION (UAL) |
|---|---|---|
| Technique | The doctor moves the cannula back and forth under the skin to break up the fat cells and removes them with a vacuum pump | Ultrasonic-assisted liposuction uses Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance to emulsify the fat in a gentler[8, 9, 10] and less intrusive manner, followed by removal via suction |
| How fat is broken down | The doctor moves the cannula back and forth under the skin to break up the fat cells and removes them with a vacuum pump | Vaser liposuction uses ultrasound waves to break up the fat in a gentler and less intrusive manner |
| Anesthesia | General Anaesthesia | Twilight sedation; Local anaesthesia |
| Skin tightening | X | Stimulates collagen production; firming skin |
| Bruising | Longer bruising period and pain | Lesser bruising and pain |
| Blood loss | Removes fat through avulsion, which can damage the surrounding tissue | Minimal disruption to the surrounding connective tissues and blood vessels |
| Recovery | Longer downtime | Faster recovery |

| Treatments | FAT FREEZING | VASER LIPOSUCTION (UAL) |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Non-surgical fat reduction | Surgically removes unwanted body fat |
| Procedure | Involves vacuuming the targeted areas externally with a handheld device and applying subzero temperatures to freeze the fat. Your body will then metabolise the frozen fat cells and expel them naturally | Involves local anaesthesia, infiltration of anaesthetic fluid via incision sites made on targeted areas followed by emulsifying of fat cells via a ultrasound probe (delivering ultrasonic energy internally) and subsequent removal of liquefied fat via suction |
| Fat reduction claims | Reduces 20% to 25% of localised over multiple sessions, without body contouring | Removes over 90% of localised fat in one session, with body contouring |
| Skin Tightening | X | Stimulate collagen production; tighten skin |
| Results | It can take between 3 to 6 months or more to achieve subtle results if the patient responds to the treatment. For some, there may be no result at all | Yields immediate visible results, but full results will show between 3 to 6 months when the post-procedural swelling subsides |
| Areas | Treats the abdomen, waist, thighs, and arms;areas are limited by the size of the applicator head | Treats all body parts with excess fat pockets while contouring the body shape smoothly |

Most bruising and swelling will be resolved.
Expect temporary scar discolouration but will fade over time.
Results will continue to improve over 3 to 6 months.
Patients with mild to moderate skin laxity will notice an improvement in skin tightening in the treated area.
Maintain a disciplined lifestyle and following a balanced diet and frequent exercise routine.
Complement your results with other aesthetics treatments after 6 months.
While Vaser liposuction permanently removes fat cells from treated areas, new fat can still develop in untreated areas if calorie intake consistently exceeds expenditure.
Vaser Liposuction is an elective surgery, therefore it is not covered under insurance or Medisave.
What affects the cost?
Your total surgical fees vary based on several factors such as:
We provide before-and-after photos privately during your one-on-one consultation with Dr Ivan Puah. You will be able to view anonymised images of actual patients who had undergone Vaser Liposuction surgery.
They allow you to:
Disclaimer: While these clinical visuals are shared in-clinic for your education, MOH strictly prohibits displaying before/after images in ANY public advertising (website, social media, brochures etc.). Choosing the right doctor with a keen aesthetic sense is crucial for achieving your desired silhouette and real results.
Think of a body sculpting procedure as a work of art in the making. The artist's expertise, experience, and deep grasp of the aesthetics of the human body are what distinguish a masterpiece from an ordinary work.
Ensure that the doctor is accredited by the Ministry of Health (MOH) Singapore to perform the procedure.
Seek lipo doctors performing a minimum of 100+ annually. High-volume practitioners will refine their techniques for optimal contouring accuracy and complication management.
Request comprehensive before and after case studies. Visual evidence demonstrates technical skill.
Do understand the benefits as well as potential side effects of the procedure. Clear your misconceptions and ask the doctor any questions you find relevant and necessary.
Discuss realistic outcomes, surgical risks and long-term maintenance. Transparent dialogue prevents post-procedure dissatisfaction and aligns expectations.
Compromise safety for cost. Avoid “bargain” packages lacking accredited facilities, trained anaesthetists or post-operative care.
Don’t overlook procedure-specific expertise. Don’t assume all lipo doctors possess equal skills in ultrasonic liposuction.
Don't withhold information during consultations. Undisclosed factors may cause anaesthesia reactions, poor wound healing or suboptimal outcomes.
